Last News of Iris and Ivo

A message from Duisburg Zoo

"Dear Mr Godefroid,

Looking at your statement of 19. April 00 - I found in the internet – I was very astonished by reading that ou have observed IRIS exhausted and depressive within the lateral bassin three weeks ago.
Since beginning of february 2000 this animal had been placed into the large tank especially used for breeding purpose. Did you see a phantom ?

I am very pleased beeing able to inform you that IRIS had been after only few days after she had give birth in top condition. Only few days later she had been socialized with the other dolphins and was integrated into the show. This is important in order to stabilize and to improve her condition.

The male IVO is in bouncing health and is fully socialized. This animal is not easy to be handled. But the very experienced animal keepers who are responsible for the care of our dolphins have got a very confidental relationship to IVO.

Thus we are looking with confidence into the future.

Sincerely

Reinhard Frese
Duisburg Zoo Director

PS : The young of IRIS was a male one. From the first breath the young dolphin was not in best condition. After few hours we had begun to feare that the young would not overlive. The reason of death we do not know yet.
