Nouvelle
maman d'Ivo reviendrait donc

About iris
We
recently received pictures of Iris and Ivo at Duisburg in late february
2002, from a friendly German correspondent named "Delphi".
At first sight, it seems Iris's health and mood are going a little better : see
above a picture showing her JUMPING, a thing she didn't do for long.
Other pictures shows Iris with a hula hoop around her neck or gently
stroked by her trainer, about 30 minutes after the show.
And a last more recent picture
shows us a trainer trying to get a breath-swab from Iris, who cooperates.
Let's note however that, a week ago, Iris has her photograph taken when
she swam with her head under water, floating like a buoy, just as last
year....
Does it mean that Duisburg Zoo, maybe more sensitive to public opinion
for a huge international petition is always turning for her, is now giving more
special cares to Iris ?
Nothing is less certain.
A strange rumour turns now, telling that
Iris could even be sent back to Belgium and rejoined Pucky, the "old"35
years old female at Burges delphinarium. Right ? Wrong ?
Who knows really the Captive Industry's thoughts ?
About Duke
Our sympathetic correspondent learned us
also that Duke, the new dolphin baby, was born in Duisburg, about four
months ago.
Now that the baby gets some chance to survive - the first month of life
is the more lethal - Duisburg Zoo has announced the "wonderful
event" at last.
The mother is (one more time) Pepina.
Let's remind Pepina is a founder dolphin, caught in the wild in
1989. She has already got three children with Play Boy (now dead) :
Daisy and Delphi, her two daugthers still alive, and Duphi, her boy who
died in 1999 at the age of eleven.
Duke is the fourth, fathered by Ivo.
Of course, Duke will never be a REAL
dolphin : he will get no autonomy, his behaviour will be controled by humans from
the beginning to the end.
No long trips through the waves, no collective hunts, no
relationships with other tribes, no discoveries in the bottom of the sea,
nothing but humans all around watching him.
Duke will live his entire life in a kind of "Big Brother broadcast" until he
dies, playing his whole life confined in a little room.
Long live, thus, to this Domestic Dolphin New Species (Tursiops
Truncatus Aquariumsis ) that Dolphin Industry is creating relentlesness for
the pleasure and entertainment of (some) humans..!
